Buying a BDA site is still a safe bet
In the backdrop of building violations and demolitions
at Koramangala, the HC had asked BDA to do a through review
of violations/
This whole irregularity emerges from unscrupulous builders
using land meant for a purpose, for something else. I want
to forewarn the public not to fall for promises of builders
who may be forming layouts in the green belt and selling them.
Don’t buy unless you are sure that it is in a residential
zone. As for citizens – when you start your construction,
be sure not to violate land use. The plan sanctioning at the
BDA will be made stricter for civic amenity sites.
In there anything in particular from the IT/BT department
that you want to emulate in the BDA?
The GIS application has started already, I will be speeding
it up. I want to bring in some IT tools for application at
the BDA. The logistics are still unclear.
1. Every BDA layout to have tree parks.
2. These would act as oxygen banks for Bangalore.
3. Existing layout will be refurbished
BDA to go green with tree parks
Bangalore: Carbon sinks. Mini cubbon Parks.
Oxygen banks that’s the stuff great neighborhoods are
made of, believes the Bangalore Development Authority, which
is finalizing a policy on compulsorily having dedicated tree
parks within layouts.
Explains BDA commissioner M K Shankaralinge Gowda, whose
nouveau idea it is: “ The tree parks will act as carbon
sinks, where aii the carbon around the vicinity will sink.
I am advocating mini Cubbon Parks in the city, they are real
oxygen banks for Bangalore. Future layouts and existing layouts
will have tree parks, the existing park will be converted
into tree parks.”
A tree park is not to be cofused with either the green belt
or the green initiatives being carried out in tandem with
the BMP. In the tree park or gundu topu (Cluster of trees),
the floral and green quotient will be on a high, as the cluster
wil include about 3,000 trees – Gulmohar, pongamia,
eucalyptus, bougainvillea clusterset al.
Existing layouts like Anjanapura, HSR Layout, Banashankari
6th stage, Visvesvaraya layout will be refurbished to include
tree - parks. Existing parks, which have either degenerated
into dry fields or a play-area for children, will be spruced
up to metamorphose into tree-parks. And for upcoming ones
like Arkavathy, a earmarked space in the blueprint is a must,
the BDA has ruled. The role of resident welfare associations
becomes significant, as the BDA hopes to have interfaces with
them for suggestions.
